Where's the debt ceiling now?- CNN

http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/11/news/economy/debt-ceiling-reset/

I think that this article is a bit shocking because our national debt is 17 trillion dollars. The opinions in the article were pretty unbiased which made the article easier to understand. It seemed pretty concerning that the ceiling has been raised five times since 2011. I think that the ceiling could affect personal savings and cause the economy to slow. I am a bit skeptical that the Treasury can monitor the funds and make sure the country doesn't exceed the limit. I think that the country can successfully run with a lot of debt but they need to stop raising it. However, it is concerning that the ceiling has raised approximately three trillion dollars in the last three years. The government and committees usually come up with good solutions to these issues. I hope that they can come up with a plan that allows the country to function with an OK amount of debt.

  1. It's crazy that the government keeps raising the debt ceiling. I agree with how you said the country can run successfully with a lot of debt, but they need to stop raising it. What's the purpose of having a debt ceiling if the government keeps raising it? it totally defeats the purpose. Hopefully this is one of the last time the debt ceiling rises, but I highly doubt that it will be.

  2. I agree with Tyler, why even have a debt ceiling if the government just continues to change it? It makes no sense. I great deal of spending reform needs to take place in this country to make an attempt to control the debt.

  3. I think that the government is just going to keep raising the debt ceiling because, there is no way we are going to ever be able to pay back 17 trillion dollars the only thing we can do is try and slow it down.

  4. The amount of debt our country holds is a huge burden on our economy. Yes, something needs to be done, but what to be done is a completely different story. We just need to be able to cut back on unneeded funds.

  5. The national debt has been growing and growing for decades now. I am very surprised that our government does not make huge changes in order to lower it. I am also surprised by how few people actually worry about this issue

  6. In my opinion Obama just needs to put his big boy pants on and stop all the debt from happening. He has the power the stop the government from spending so much money but insted he just lets the price ceiling to keep going up. This is why are country needs a new leader.
